With the NFL Draft fast approaching, Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward has emerged as one of the most intriguing signal-callers in this year’s class. While multiple teams have shown interest in the dynamic dual-threat quarterback, one organization has already left a strong impression on him: the New Orleans Saints.
Ward, who met with Saints officials last month at the NFL Combine, spoke glowingly about his experience with the team while accepting the Manning Award on Monday night in New Orleans.
“I loved watching Drew Brees and [Marques] Colston out there,” Ward said, per NOLA.com. “It would be a dream of mine to play for them if I get a chance some day. But that’s not really my focus right now.”
Ward Impressed by Saints Coaching Staff
While Ward remains focused on the draft process and preparing for whatever team selects him, he couldn’t help but acknowledge the positive impression left by New Orleans’ coaching staff, particularly first-year head coach Kellen Moore.
“It was a great meeting,” Ward said. “If you get a chance to go play for a Super Bowl-winning coach like Coach Moore… he knows how to dial up the playbook.”
Moore, who previously served as the offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Chargers, is known for his quarterback-friendly schemes and aggressive playcalling. For a high-upside passer like Ward, playing in Moore’s system could be an ideal fit.
One of Ward’s biggest takeaways from his meeting with the Saints was the importance of being prepared for any situation in the NFL.
“The biggest thing I took away from that meeting was that you just have to be prepared at all times, whether you go in as a starter or you go in as a backup. You never know when your number is going to be called.”

Ward’s Strong College Resume and Draft Stock
Coming off an outstanding season at Miami, Ward’s draft stock has continued to rise. In 2023, he put up elite numbers, completing 67.2% of his passes for 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions while leading the Hurricanes’ offense with precision and explosiveness. His performance earned him a Heisman Trophy finalist nod and solidified his status as one of the top quarterbacks in the draft.

Could the Saints Make a Move for Ward?
The Saints currently have Derek Carr under contract, but with the veteran quarterback entering his 11th NFL season, New Orleans could be in the market for a young quarterback to develop for the future. Ward’s athleticism, arm talent, and leadership make him a compelling option, especially if he remains available when the Saints are on the clock.
While Ward remains open to playing anywhere, his positive remarks about New Orleans suggest he would welcome an opportunity to join the Saints if the right situation presents itself.
Whether they pull the trigger on draft night remains to be seen, but Ward’s admiration for the franchise and its offensive vision could make him a name to watch for Saints fans come April.
