The Tampa Bay Rays capitalized on several Boston Red Sox mistakes Monday night, securing a chaotic 10-8 extra-innings victory. This win unfortunately overshadowed the highly anticipated MLB debut of Red Sox top prospect, Roman Anthony.

The Rays broke the 8-8 tie in the 11th inning. With the bases loaded against Boston reliever Zack Kelly, Junior Caminero drew a crucial 3-2 walk. Jake Mangum then followed with an RBI chopper, a play extended by a high throw from first baseman Romy Gonzalez. Ian Seymour pitched two solid innings in his MLB debut to earn the win for Tampa, marking their sixth victory in seven games.

Anthony’s debut was a challenging one. He went hitless in four at-bats, though he did record his first career RBI with a ninth-inning groundout that cut the deficit to 7-6. Kristian Campbell then tied the game with a timely single. However, Anthony also committed a defensive error in the fifth inning, allowing an unearned run. This was part of a larger night of miscues for Boston, including two official errors, a wild pitch, a hit batsman, and a botched infield fly.

In the bottom of the 11th, with Anthony slated to lead off, Rob Refsnyder pinch-hit and walked. The game ended dramatically when Romy Gonzalez struck out and was ejected, leaving the Red Sox without a replacement batter. Ceddanne Rafaela then lined out to shortstop, ending the game.
