The New York Giants’ potential pursuit of Aaron Rodgers has taken a surprising turn, with new reports suggesting the two sides are closer than expected to making a deal happen.
Veteran Giants insider Art Stapleton provided a significant update on the situation while appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, a program Rodgers has frequently used as his personal platform. According to Stapleton, the Giants and Rodgers’ camp have made substantial progress, and the idea of the four-time MVP staying in the Meadowlands—this time in a different jersey—is becoming more realistic by the day.
Rodgers and the Giants ‘Deep Into Negotiations’
Rodgers is entering free agency for the first time in his career, and with few teams willing to commit significant money to a 41-year-old quarterback coming off an Achilles injury, the Giants have emerged as one of his strongest landing spots.
“They are pretty significantly down a road where they are negotiating to the point where if Aaron Rodgers ends up as a Giant before the start of the league year next week, it would not be a shock to people in this area and in the Meadowlands,” Stapleton revealed.
With the NFL league year set to begin on Wednesday, March 12, time is ticking for a deal to be finalized. However, Rodgers is not yet directly involved in the discussions, as his agent and representatives are reportedly handling the early negotiations.
“You can’t get involved with a player of the caliber of Aaron Rodgers and his resume without at least having an understanding as to what ballpark you have to be in,” Stapleton continued. “And what he’s willing to do at age 41 after what he’s gone through the last two years.”

Are the Giants Ready to Handle Rodgers?
Despite the shock factor of the Giants’ interest, the franchise seems undeterred by Rodgers’ outspoken personality and weekly media presence, particularly his controversial Tuesday appearances on The Pat McAfee Show.
“At every turn, the Giants have yet to be scared off by the idea of Aaron Rodgers coming on some show every Tuesday,” Stapleton noted. “Seems like everybody wants that to be the big issue. I think from a football fit, this is something that they’re seriously considering.”
Rodgers has remained a polarizing figure, dominating headlines even while sidelined. After tearing his Achilles just four plays into his New York Jets debut in 2023, he stayed in the public eye with frequent McAfee appearances, often making bold, unfiltered statements that fueled speculation about his future.
Even as rumors swirled, Rodgers continued using the show as his personal platform, even casually teasing a Davante Adams reunion with the Jets live on air. Though McAfee himself admitted he hasn’t spoken to Rodgers recently, co-host A.J. Hawk mentioned that the quarterback would be back on the show “soon”—a vague statement that only adds more intrigue.
Do the Giants Check Rodgers’ Boxes?
While Rodgers has yet to publicly comment on the Giants’ interest, he previously laid out his expectations for his next team—and New York’s NFC squad appears to check most of those boxes.
The Giants’ quarterback situation is far from settled, with Daniel Jones’ struggles and injury history casting doubt over his long-term future. The team is reportedly open to adding a veteran signal-caller to stabilize the position, and while many assumed they would target a younger option, the idea of Rodgers taking over has gained surprising traction.
At this point, Rodgers’ NFL future remains uncertain, but the Giants’ serious involvement in discussions suggests this could be more than just speculation.
With the start of the league year rapidly approaching, a resolution could come sooner rather than later—potentially setting the stage for one of the most unexpected moves of the offseason.
