Kate Hudson has opened up about “complicated” family dyanmics, admitting that she “wants to break out”.
Kate, 45, grew up in a family home with “a lot of boys” and a “very sporty family”. She says it led her to feeling “cosy” whenever she watches a TV show about sport.
It has led to Kate starring as Isla Gordon in Netflix’s hit show Running Point. The show sees Kate starring as Isla Gordon, who has taken over a basketball franchise from her brother.
Isla has to prove she is the right person for the job while battling against the male-dominated world of professional sport and her own scheming family. Hudson, who grew up in a family home with mom Goldie Hawn as well as stepdad actor Kurt Russell, her brother Oliver Hudson, and half-brother Wyatt Russell, says this is something that resonates with her, reports the Irish Star.
Speaking to Hello! magazine, Hudson remarked: “Family dynamics are really complicated, and when you’re stuck in them, sometimes you just want to break out.”

She added: “Then you get into the family dynamic and you’re forced to see yourself differently.”
Kate says she had to learn to find her own inner power at a young age. The star says Isla has the ability to “make her own choices” throughout the show despite facing an “uphill battle” in basketball.
She believes that many women will relate to her character’s ordeal, caught in “high-powered positions, where you know the right moves but your confidence has not caught up.”
Kate revealed her famous brother, Oliver is “still mad” at her because he didn’t have a cameo in Running Point. Creator Mindy Kaling, however, hinted at Oliver’s future cameo.

Speaking to People magazine, Kate says she and Oliver had a “crazy sibling dynamic”, something they discuss in their podcast Sibling Revelry. She has also previously spoken about how important her family is to her.
She said: “Sibling dynamics are really challenging. And you realize – which I love, because I really have spent so many years now talking about it – [siblings] know each other better than anyone. And every good, bad, and ugly thing that happens in your life, it comes out in that dynamic.
“But at the same time, when you have them on your side and you choose to work through things together – there’s no other bond like it.”
As well as Oliver and Wyatt, Kate has two half-brothers, Boston and Zachary, and two half-sisters, Emily and Lalania, from her father Bill Hudson’s subsequent relationships. Kate has previously revealed she didn’t talk to her father’s children growing up.
