Thousands flock to Vilnius, Lithuania, to witness a unique Corgi race where short-legged dogs compete in speed, fashion shows, and even a contest for the most “majestic” bark.
Thousands of dog lovers from across Europe flocked to Vilnius, Lithuania, to attend the 2025 Corgi Race, where 120 teams of short-legged dogs competed in exciting and unusual events.
The two-day event, held at Vingis Park, the largest park in the city, featured sprint races, puzzle challenges, fashion shows, and even a contest to see which dog had the most “majestic” bark. Teams came from numerous countries including Latvia, Poland, Austria, Germany, and Italy. The organizers described the event as: “Vilnius will become the center of the Corgi universe, welcoming all dog lovers to join in.”
In the sprint race, the Corgi Mango (Xoài) from the host country, Lithuania, claimed first place. Mango’s owner, Ignas Klimaika, said: “This is Mango’s second time participating. Last year we didn’t perform as well as we hoped, but this year Mango knew exactly what to do, and we are very proud.”
Another highlight of the event was the fashion competition, where Corgis showed off quirky outfits, ranging from Batman and princesses to… airplanes.
This year’s event concluded on August 24 with the World Corgi Meetup, connecting dogs in Lithuania online with their four-legged friends from Ireland, the United States, and Poland. Many families, like Janina Stoniene, a retired teacher who brought her three grandchildren, shared: “Our family had so much fun and so many emotions. This is truly a refreshing event that everyone wants to attend.”
The Vilnius Corgi Race is not just a competition for adorable dogs, but also an opportunity for fans across Europe to meet, connect, and enjoy the joy of sharing time with their four-legged “stars.”
