RED-HOT RED SOX OFFENSE BLITZES ROCKIES AGAIN, CRUSHES COLORADO 10-2 IN ANOTHER STATEMENT WIN AT FENWAY

BOSTON — JULY 9, 2025

Another day, another double-digit scoreboard for the Boston Red Sox — and this time, the Colorado Rockies were the latest victims.

On a humid summer night at Fenway Park, the Red Sox continued their torrid offensive stretch, pounding out 14 hits and plating 10 runs in a resounding 10-2 win over the Rockies. The victory not only kept Boston firmly in the AL Wild Card chase but also marked their third consecutive game scoring at least 10 runs — a feat they hadn’t accomplished since June of 2016.

“It’s contagious,” manager Alex Cora said postgame, grinning as he scanned the box score. “Guys are putting together great at-bats, we’re using the whole field, and everyone’s contributing. It’s a good feeling in the dugout right now.”

DURAN SETS THE TONE

Jarren Duran, who’s been the heart and soul of the Sox lineup this summer, ignited the offense right out of the gate. Leading off the first inning, he ripped a triple off Rockies starter Ryan Feltner, then scored moments later on Rafael Devers’ sharp single through the right side.

Two innings later, Duran lashed a two-run double into the gap, stretching Boston’s lead to 4-0 and drawing roars from the Fenway faithful. He finished the night 3-for-5 with three RBIs and raised his season average to .318.

“He’s a spark plug,” Devers said through a translator. “Every time he’s up there, we know something’s gonna happen.”

The speedster has become a cult hero in Boston, not only for his game-changing speed but also for his relentless hustle. His baserunning on Wednesday left the Rockies defense scrambling more than once, and his energy seemed to permeate the entire lineup.

DEVERS DELIVERS AGAIN

Speaking of Devers, the All-Star third baseman continued his own impressive tear, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and his 21st homer of the season. In the bottom of the sixth, he crushed a Feltner slider into the bleachers, a towering two-run blast that made it 8-2 and effectively broke Colorado’s spirit.

Fenway erupted as Devers rounded the bases, grinning ear-to-ear. In his last 15 games, he’s hitting .357 with 7 homers and 18 RBIs.

“That was a no-doubter,” Cora said. “When Raffy’s locked in like this, he can carry us.”

ROCKIES OUTMATCHED

For Colorado, it was another frustrating night in a season that continues to spiral. Feltner lasted just five innings, surrendering seven hits and six earned runs while striking out only three. The Rockies’ bullpen offered little relief, with relievers struggling to find the strike zone and keep Boston’s bats quiet.

“Boston’s swinging the bats great right now,” Rockies manager Bud Black admitted. “They’re hot, and we just didn’t execute pitches when we needed to.”

The lone bright spot for Colorado was Ezequiel Tovar, who cracked a two-run homer in the fifth, temporarily trimming Boston’s lead to 6-2. But that was as close as the Rockies would get.

PITCHING DOES ITS JOB

Lost in the offensive fireworks was yet another solid outing by Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck. Houck worked 6 2/3 innings, scattering five hits and allowing just the two runs on Tovar’s blast. He struck out eight and walked only one, lowering his ERA to 3.42.

“He attacked hitters, stayed ahead in counts,” Cora said. “That’s all we can ask.”

Houck has quietly become a stabilizing force in Boston’s rotation, giving the Sox quality innings while the club navigates injuries and an ever-shifting pitching staff.

FENWAY BUZZING WITH PLAYOFF ENERGY

As the Red Sox players exited the dugout, fans lingered in the stands, soaking up the electric vibe that’s been building in Boston over the past month. A team many had written off as a fringe contender now sits just one game back of the final AL Wild Card spot, thanks in large part to an offense that has scored 58 runs in its last five games.

“It feels like playoff baseball already,” Duran said. “We want to keep this going.”

The Red Sox are now 52-41, a record few predicted when injuries and inconsistent play marred the early part of the season. But Boston’s recent surge has changed the conversation — and the atmosphere inside Fenway.

“It’s been fun,” Devers said. “We believe in each other. We believe we can do something special.”

Next up, Boston opens a three-game set against the Texas Rangers on Friday night. With the way they’re swinging the bats, no opponent looks particularly eager to see them right now.

As the scoreboard in center field flipped to FINAL and the Fenway lights glared down on the diamond, fans filed out chanting: “Let’s go Red Sox!” — convinced that maybe, just maybe, this summer could be one to remember.
