“Israel’s Gaza conquest plan highlights its total disregard for peace mediation efforts, raising global concerns about stability, humanitarian impact, and the future of negotiations in the region”.
Palestinian militant group Hamas on Wednesday condemned Israel’s latest military announcement, accusing it of showing “blatant disregard” for international mediation efforts aimed at halting nearly two years of bloodshed in Gaza.
In a statement, Hamas said Israel’s declaration of a new operation targeting Gaza City—home to nearly one million residents and displaced civilians—proved that the “terrorist occupation army” had no intention of respecting negotiations for a ceasefire or hostage release deal.
“Today’s announcement… demonstrates a blatant disregard for the efforts made by the mediators,” the group said, referring to ongoing talks led by regional and international actors.
The Israeli military has yet to provide full details of the operation, but officials have signaled an intensified campaign against Hamas strongholds in Gaza’s largest urban center. The plan comes as humanitarian groups warn of catastrophic conditions in the densely populated enclave, where food, medicine, and shelter remain in critically short supply.
Since Israel launched its offensive against Hamas nearly two years ago, more than 60,000 people have been killed in Gaza, according to local health authorities. International organizations, including the United Nations, have repeatedly urged both sides to agree to a ceasefire and prioritize humanitarian relief.
Mediation efforts, involving Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, have sought to link a truce with the release of Israeli hostages still held in Gaza. But talks have stalled repeatedly amid escalating violence.
Hamas insists that Israel’s latest push into Gaza City undermines any chance of progress. “This reckless campaign only deepens the suffering of civilians and further complicates diplomatic solutions,” the group’s statement read.
With the conflict showing no signs of resolution, pressure is mounting on both sides to accept international proposals. However, Wednesday’s announcement signals that the war is far from over.
