US President Donald Trump’s attendance at the men’s singles final of the 2025 US Open tennis tournament in the early morning of September 8 caused many people to queue so long that they missed the match.
Forty-five minutes before the start of the final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, US President Donald Trump was escorted by security forces to Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, the world’s largest tennis venue with a capacity of nearly 24,000.
His arrival prompted long lines for fans to wait for security checks. The US Secret Service and other federal security agents searched bags and directed fans through metal detectors. The match was then delayed by nearly 30 minutes.
However, when the match started, there were still many empty seats in the stands because fans did not have time to enter the stadium. This caused discomfort and some people booed and whistled when Mr. Trump’s image appeared on the stadium screen.
Others were quite excited, they tried to crowd closer to the edge of the area where Mr. Trump was sitting. This caused the main referee James Keothavong to constantly remind “please take your seats”.
Not only that, after Carlos Alcaraz finished the match with a 3-1 victory (6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4) over Jannik Sinner to win the 6th Grand Slam of his career, people also caught a strange expression on Mr. Trump’s face.
Specifically, when the entire crowd applauded Alcaraz, President Trump seemed unhappy with a “sad” face. This moment was recorded by television and then posted, creating a fever on social networks.
Many fans commented jokingly: “Someone tell President Donald Trump that Carlos Alcaraz is not Mexican”.
Another comment wrote: “Look at President Donald Trump’s expression! Looks like he bet on Sinner today”.
